Gardai have seized over
€4million worth of heroin in a search of a truck on the M1, just outside
Drogheda.
As part of on-going
intelligence-led operation targeting the sale, supply and distribution of
controlled substances, Gardai from the Garda National Drugs Unit (GNDU) based
at Dublin Castle, assisted by local detective unit in Drogheda stopped and
searched an articulated truck on the M1 last night.
During the course of the
search Gardai discovered 27 kilos of heroin with an estimated street value of
€4.05 million. A male (40 years) and female (43 years) were arrested at scene
and a second male (40 years) was arrested in a follow up search and all three
are currently detained at Coolock and Drogheda Garda Stations under the
provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.
